Grassroots football clubs are being encouraged to ensure their players and officials learn first aid skills following Christian Eriksen’s collapse during the Denmark v Finland Euro 2020 match at the weekend.
Eriksen’s life was saved when Denmark captain Simon Kjaer appeared to clear his airways before medics administered CPR on the pitch.
CSALS is dedicated to promoting the need for more people to learn first aid skills and they have urged grassroots clubs to take advantage of their free online course.
Debra Johnson, CSALS’ community facilitator, said: “As we saw on Saturday, the presence of someone with the necessary first aid knowledge is vital and can be the difference between life or death.
“The life-saving skills used in Denmark are covered in our online course, which only takes around an hour to complete.
“In the wake of Saturday’s incident, we have already been contacted by grassroots clubs who are keen to ensure they have people on hand who know first aid. We can arrange group delivery of the course or people can go online in their own time.”
